Building a peer to peer digital community for offshore international students

Post COVID-19, universities must offer an extended range of mixed-mode delivery to cater to every student’s needs, including support and peer mentoring. Peer-support programs are well established as key enablers of student success and engagement; however, most programs are based on campus, with online offerings typically reserved for students who chose to study fully online.
Bond University, in partnership with Vygo, created connectivity for a cohort of offshore international students using a peer mentoring app. This collaboration enabled students to interact in a group setting with the ability to foster individual relationships on the back of those events, in a safe and pre-qualified environment. This workshop will walk participants through the stages undertaken at Bond University to redress the challenge created when international students were confined to emergency remote teaching and support. We will share our stages of discovery and implementation to allow workshop participants an opportunity to model similar examples within their institutions.
