“The show must go on”
During the Global Health Crisis, it has not been easy to initiate and maintain communication with struggling students, in order to both discuss and assist in accessing available support. The pandemic has not only transformed our world, but also the ways, in which student matters are managed, and not always negatively. Online orientation sessions, with a chat function can provide insight into students’ level of engagement. A proactive, support team was established to reach out to all students, including the under 18 international student cohort. Student issues related to remote learning such as course progress and wellbeing were identified from communication with students, academic and support staff. The resulting strategy was effective in most cases. Ultimately, we all need to be ever prepared to address the challenges and capitalise on any opportunities that may present.
