Monash University has developed a new program to enhance the transition of new international students and enable engagement with other students’ pre-arrival. The program provides our large and diverse international student intake with a range of channels to provide timely and comprehensive information that results in increased engagement during face to face orientation sessions. In parallel, a bespoke social media platform (aMigo) was developed to enable new students to facilitate connections. It has proved successful in building community, networks and confidence in their transition to Monash, all key aims in the orientation and transition process. Underpinning all aspects of these new initiatives is involvement of students. They have been involved in the research, direction, design, testing, implementation and program delivery of the program. This presentation will provide an overview of the development, component parts, nature and extent of student involvement, successes and key future considerations of this new program.
